Of deep saturated tones and finely knotted craftsmanship, this elegant Baluch tribal rug is a quintessential example of nomadic artistry from the Khorasan region, where Persian and Afghan influences converge. The field is richly decorated with a continuous lattice of diamond-shaped gul motifs, each intricately filled with stylized floral medallions and symbolic patterns believed to represent protection and prosperity.

Rendered in a dramatic palette of cochineal reds, midnight blues, and ivory highlights, the piece features a classic double border design: the inner guard bearing rosette floret patterns and the outer border adorned with a distinctive wave-like leaf motif. The spontaneous yet harmonious asymmetry of the motifs, typical of Baluch weaving, reflects the intuitive artistry of its creator, likely a tribal weaver from the Mashhad or Herat region.

This rug’s high-quality handspun wool and natural vegetable dyes, combined with its tight, asymmetrical (Persian) knotting and full pile condition, underscore its collectible value. A rare surviving textile, it offers both aesthetic refinement and cultural depth, ideal for connoisseurs of tribal and ethnographic weavings.
